Multi-Company Systems Manager
Applications that are developed for larger organizations
may require the ability to work with a number of different divisions,
or corporate entities. It may be necessary to keep the application
files for each of these companies totally independent.
To accomplish this, ACUCOBOL-GT® provides a FILE
PREFIX variable that designates the directory path to the folder
in which data files are stored. This Multi-Company Manager utility
allows you to define a company system, and specify the directory
path to the folder where the files for that company are stored.
When the Main Menu program is launched, the operator can select
a Company System, and the program will set the FILE PREFIX accordingly.
All applications that execute at this point will reference the designated
files for the chosen Company System.
A number of other properties may be specified,
including company name, address, the extension applied to the files,
the directory path for temporary files, the directory path for reports,
and even the valid Printer Queues that may be accessed. This information
is made available to all application routines to be used as required.
Key Benefits
- When creating File Select statements, there is no need
to deal with setting, or determining the directory paths
to sets of files for given companies
